Puzzleism

Puzzleism is an emerging artistic movement that combines two or more artistic styles, mediums and techniques through the visual structure of puzzle pieces. By using fragmentation and the psychological principle of closure, it invites the viewer to mentally complete what is missing, involuntarily becoming a co-creator of the artwork.

The principle of closure

The principle of closure is a psychological process through which the mind naturally completes incomplete or fragmented visual information in order to perceive a coherent whole.

Within Puzzleism, this principle becomes an active part of the artwork: missing or interrupted elements encourage the viewer to mentally reconstruct what is not fully shown. As a result, perception becomes participatory, and the viewer is no longer simply observing the work but is involuntarily contributing to its completion.

The Principle of Integration

Puzzleism is designed to give artists the freedom to work across any style, technique or artistic movement without being confined to a single visual language.

Through the structure of puzzle pieces, or through their deliberate absence, different styles can exist independently within the same work while still forming part of a unified composition. An artist may combine two, three, four or more approaches within a single piece, allowing contrasting movements, techniques and aesthetics to coexist without one having to replace the other.

In this sense, Puzzleism becomes a flexible framework through which artistic languages can be separated, connected and reassembled within the same work.
